FINDING THE IMAGE IN POPULAR CULTURE - DAN PARKER

"Pop art - art in which commonplace objects (as road signs, hamburgers, comic strips, or soup cans) are used as subject matter and are often physically incorporated in the work". - Merriam-Webster. The inaugural show of the Fire Barn Gallery (18 North 5th Street) in its newest form is kicking off a great year of new art with a show of paintings by artist Dan Parker. "Finding the Image in Popular Culture" opens Thursday October 20, with a reception from 6 to 9 pm. Guests can enjoy the newly renovated gallery, complimentary hors d'oeuvres, and a brief gallery talk by the curator.

Originally from St. Louis, MO, Dan Parker is a predominantly self-taught artist who studied design for a short time at Baker College in Muskegon. His paintings invoke the American Pop Art movement of the 60's and 70's. A selection of his work can be seen online at www.unwearygoat.com. This show will be his first at the Fire Barn Gallery, and is curated by Chris Protas. It is on view from October 20th through November 8th. The gallery will be open Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 12 to 6pm, and by appointment. Call 917 572 0175 to make an appointment, and for inquiries about the gallery.
